Reminders and Family night
It’s wonderful to be back and to see so many familiar faces, as well as lots of new ones too! Just want to remind participants of a few things as we start the new (school) year, including an update on Alison’s Magical Craft Cupboard, and our Halloween Family Night. But first, some friendly reminders about important stuff! (I really have tried to be concise! Grab a snack and read on…)
Speaking of snacks, please remember to bring NUT-FREE snacks. That means NO PEANUTS or PEANUT BUTTER, NO ALMONDS/CASHEWS/PISTACHIOS/WALNUTS, or products which contain nuts, like some granola bars and trail mix. I have the nut allergy and so do a number of children and adults who come to our program. If you see something you’re concerned about, or you have any questions, please talk to me or another staff member so we can make sure proper procedure is followed.
Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds are fine – and the Spitz brand are peanut free! Many nut-free products now have a symbol on the package to make them easier to identify. If you have a child with food allergies I’d suggest bringing a placemat from home to use on our tables (paper towel or napkins work too). We do our best to keep the area clean but there’s no guarantee.
You can help us keep the snack area clean by wiping your table and sweeping the floor when you’re done – wipes or a cloth and a broom will be made available. There will also be child size hand brooms for children who want to help as well. We understand that it isn’t always possible if your child is anxious to get back to playing, but every little bit counts :o)
Rules for safe use of the bouncer are posted but there are some that are unique to this new bouncer:
1) It’s important that children do not hang on or pull down on the sides of the bouncer which could result in a child falling out.
2) Some children like to bounce from one wall to another – this can sometimes lead to the child landing on the mesh part of the wall which pulls the side down around them and makes it hard to get up. This can be scary for the child so please be attentive. The “wall to wall” approach can also create a problem for other children who may get bumped along the way so please coach your child accordingly.
3) This new bouncer has a better quality vinyl on the slides that we hope will make it last longer. It’s for this reason I don’t mind if the children want to climb up one of the slides – better if it’s just one so there is an “up slide” (on the left if you’re looking at it) and a “down slide”. However, please encourage your child NOT to slide down on the yellow barriers on the slide, especially the middle one. This will help keep it clean (why the manufacturers use yellow on the slide I’ll never know) but also prevents it from wearing out too fast!
4) Finally and most importantly please supervise your child(ren). If you see a problem, please alert myself or Laney.
The new red trike and the double trike are the most popular ride-ons, and sometimes the excitement takes over and they go faster than is safe in our space. Please encourage your child not to chase or be chased, and to SLOW DOWN. The double trike will also tip when turning a corner at too fast a speed. We’re also trying to keep riding toys on the opposite side of the sign-in table to cut down on traffic jams.

HALLOWEEN FAMILY NIGHT
Friday, Oct 18th, 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm
A dance in the gym for kids ages 6 and up, and Ride & Play for children up to age 5 and an adult caregiver. Please note that for this family night we do not use the bouncer during Ride & Play but set up an extra area of Halloween-themed activities. To avoid being traumatized by the costumes at the dance, you can enter Ride & Play directly from the doors that lead out onto the basketball pad. Children and adults are also encouraged to dress-up :o) Stroller Parking will be clearly marked.
Admission is $3/child (infants under 6 months free with a sibling), payable at the door.
ONE MORE THING:
Laney and I are here to help make sure the program runs smoothly; if you need anything, a pair of hands to hold your baby while you go to the bathroom, an extra diaper because you’ve run out, an ice pak because there was a “head bonk” in the bouncer (sad but true), please don’t hesitate to ask.
Speaking of diapers! Our emergency supply is running low! If you have extras of a size your child no longer wears, please donate them! We’ve recently had a couple of generous donations of wipes which is also greatly appreciated. We go through a lot of them and as parents know, they aren’t cheap either. Please use them sparingly.
Whew! Thanks for hanging in there! See you soon!
